Fire & Smoke

Having an experienced contractor matters.

Smoke travels into wall cavities, attics, and HVAC runs you cannot see. We address those areas to remove the smell — not just the surface staining.

Process

From board-up to keys back.

  1. 01
24-hour board-up & tarp. Secure the structure, prevent further weather damage, and document the loss.
  2. 02
Inventory & contents. Pack-out of salvageable contents to a clean storage environment. Non-salvage documented for the claim.
  3. 03
Soot & residue removal. Dry-soot cleaning before any moisture is introduced. Wet smoke and protein residues handled with appropriate solvents.
  4. 04
Structural cleaning. Walls, ceilings, framing, and substrate cleaned to determine what can be sealed vs. removed.
  5. 05
Deodorization. Ozone, hydroxyl, or thermal fogging matched to the smoke type. HVAC cleaned or sealed.
  6. 06
Reconstruction. Drywall, paint, flooring, cabinetry, finish carpentry — restoring the property to pre-loss condition.
  7. 07
Final walk-through. Inspection with you. 1-year warranty on completed work.
Smoke types

Why the residue matters more than the flame.

  • Dry smoke. Fast-burning, high-temp fires. Powdery residue, easier to clean but penetrates porous materials.
  • Wet smoke. Slow-burning, low-heat fires. Sticky, smeary, strong odor. Requires solvent cleaning.
  • Protein smoke. Kitchen fires involving food. Nearly invisible, extreme odor, discolors paint and finishes.
  • Fuel-oil soot. Furnace puff-backs. Oily residue across the entire structure via the HVAC system.

Identifying the smoke type drives every cleaning decision — chemistry, sequence, and which materials get cleaned vs. removed. Getting it wrong wastes hours and leaves the smell behind.

We also handle the HVAC system, attic insulation, and wall cavities. Smoke deposits in those spaces and continues to off-gas if left in place. Sealing or removing them is part of the scope, not an add-on.

Timeline

What to expect.

Day 0

Emergency board-up, tarp, and securing the property.

Week 1

Inventory, pack-out, and initial cleaning underway.

Weeks 2–4

Structural cleaning, deodorization, and reconstruction planning.

Weeks 4–12+

Reconstruction and finish work. Timeline depends on loss size and material lead times.

FSRT (Fire & Smoke Restoration Technician) certification is held by our partner subcontractors. Derick is in the process of obtaining FSRT in-house.
